I found this story quite confusing. It jumps around in time, it is difficult to determine who is who at times. It is one of those stories you continue to read, hoping it will get better. There's no heroes in this story. The main character, Jock, visits a small European town to write the great mystery novel. He's a meek person, and he takes a fancy to a shop owner who seems to like him also. Before they get their relationship going, she's named the May Queen for the festival (May, I assume) and is kidnapped, as were many former May Queens, but their killer died in prison. Then it gets weird. There's an assortment of oddball characters, Dylan, the former cop who needs a liver transplant because he drinks constantly, Simon, who's a giant.Just when you think, "This is absurd" it gets 100 time weirder. For the big finale,It's like the author thought, "I need to wrap this up, fast."The ending is so shocking you feel used for the entire book.
